Double Gig Day – Free Music

M27 Live at the White CrossAlright! I’m pleased to say we’ve now got 2 confirmed gigs to celebrate the Royal Wedding, or is it to celebrate a day off work? Anyway, Minus 27 will be playing live at the West End Pub in Kirkstall on the 29th April at 4:30pm, and then again at Cellar V, Guiseley at 7:30pm. There’s a BBQ for all Kirkstall attendees and there’s  2 cocktails for £5 for all Guiseley attendees.

It would be great to see you there.

On a separate note, thanks to those who popped into White Cross last night, despite struggling with a throat infection (violins at the ready) myself and Rik really enjoyed it, and we’ll be back there at the end of the month. Don’t forget to check out M27 playing at Solfest in August and keep your set list suggestions coming in, there’s some free music in it for every comment on the site.

See you this Friday (15th April) at Cellar V, for our usual weekend kickstart!

The Queens

We’re pleased to say last night at the Queens was the busiest open mic night to date – a BIG thank you to all those that came down, we’ll hopefully see you again this week at either the White Cross or Cellar V (or both!). If you have any pictures or videos then please upload and tag them on Facebook, or alternatively email them to us directly at

Apologies to those of you who didn’t get to play as much as you would have liked, there were a few different acts last night and we were trying to balance it so everyone got a fair crack. It’s great to see the time investment from Steve & Graeme at the venue and ourselves, begin to start paying off. More of the same next week!

We’re also pushing on with developing an on-site studio at the Queens, to further build on our current offering together with Paul. As soon as we start getting things confirmed, we’ll let you know via the site and on Facebook. It’s not clear yet whether there will be the opportunity to open up the studio for hire on a full time basis, but that is the long term aim.

As always, feel free to get in touch with requests, be it for songs you’d like to hear or gig proposals. It would be great to hear from you.

Minus 27 – This Week

Minus 27A big thank you to all those who came down to The Queens for Open Mic night yesterday. Good to see more performers getting up and having a go, and  great to see the new banner outside the venue! I managed to get a few pics which will be up on facebook asap.

Next stop this week for Minus 27 is Cellar V on Friday 1st April (no joke) 19:30 – 21:30. Drinks offers are available – 2 cocktails for £5, I believe is the most popular one!

It would be great to get loads of people down for what will be a bi-weekly event from now on. We’ll be taking the stage again on the 15th and 29th of April, and lets face it we’ll probably stick around for a few drinks afterwards….so come and join us!

Home studio News

The start of a new studio?

Home studioCould this be the start of the greatest home studio?… Probably not, but it’s a decent effort!

Hopefully M27 will be using this kit for a few new demo’s we’re gonna get recorded so that we’ll have something to give away free at Solfest 2011.

I know what you’re thinking. Acoustic duo using a Mesa and a Marshall, but we’re hopefully going to have a few guest musicians involved, all recorded by the stellar Paul Atkinson, in order to beef up the tracks we’ve already got.

We’ll need a name for the Minus 27 CD, so feel free to leave a comment with suggestions (keep it clean-ish). Get in touch if you need to do some quality recording and we’ll organise it for you.

Also – I’ve managed to find some old Mapel Fire CD’s leftover from our tour a couple of years back, if anyone wants one let us know.

Minus 27 at White Cross News

White Cross Open Mic Nights

Minus 27 at White CrossOriginally, White Cross Open Mic Nights were intended to be the first Wednesday of the month, every month. Recently we’ve not managed to keep to this (despite wanting to), however I can confirm two dates in April when Minus 27 will be taking over a small corner of the pub once again.

Dates are both Wednesdays:

13/04/2011 – 9pm
27/04/2011 – 9pm

If you want any songs learning beforehand so you can participate, then feel free to get in touch, and we’ll do our best. As for the first Wednesday of the month plan, I think it’s safe to assume this won’t be happening anymore, but we’ll try and keep you updated as best we can. All performers will also be able to get hold of a recording of their performance, audio or video, for a small fee.

If you’re a big Open Mic fan, then feel free to ‘bob’ down to our other regular spot at The Queens, Apperley Bridge every Monday from 9pm.

Filming with Absolution Films

Absolution FilmsGetting fairly busy at camp M27 over the last month or so, and there’s no signs of it slowing down. We’re hopefully going to be working alongside Absolution Films for the second time and filming some new videos.

The initial aim of the project is to get a video completed for our track ‘Welcome Home’, and then further our live recordings. And thanks to code name “PGTips” there may be a brand new version of the song for you to have a listen to… this space!

Absolution Films is a UK film company based in Cambridge. They specialise in filming live bands of all genres and shooting music videos. The company can often work to a tight budget and are willing to lend their expertise to both signed and unsigned groups.
